Stephen Wins GISA Region 3AA Middle School 1600 Meter and 800 Meter

It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Stephen would win the Regional Middle School meet after winning the High School varsity meet. Stephen set a PR today in the 1600 with a time of 5:15. He finished the 800 in 2:24.

The gun shot at the end of the 3rd lap is not for crowd control, but to let the other runners know that the lead runner is starting his final lap. In a recent meet one of the girl runners nearly had a heart attack when the gun went off. It startled her so bad it took her nearly 5 or 10 meters to regain her composure. Stephen says it makes him want to start sprinting.

Take a look at the video of the 1600 meter meet.

2011 Rose City Run 10K

Stephen (10K), Jacob (1 Mile) and Kappy (1 Mile) ran in the Rose City Run today. Stephen came in 11th overall and 2nd in his age group (14-19). Kappy came in 3rd in her age group (5-6). Jacob came in 33rd overall.

You can check out all of the 10K Results here and the 1 mile Results here.

Here is the article from the Thomasville Times Enterprise.

This is likely Stephen's last 10K for awhile as it ended even worse than the Springtime Tallahassee a couple weeks ago. As Stephen approached the 6th mile and started up the steep hill leading to the finish line he was in 4th place overall and about 200 meters ahead of the 5th place guy. His body then just started shutting down. With 200 meters left he started walking. I watched as he stumbled his way up the hill as a group of 4 or 5 runners closed in on him. He finally reached the top of the hill and tried to run again. After several feet he stopped and walked. With 30 meters left and another runner closing in on him Stephen trotted to the finish line before his body completely gave out. Stephen is not going to run in anymore 10K's until we get his recovery problems figured out.You can read more about the Rose City Run on Herb Wills' blog. Enjoy the pictures:
