Marzuq 5K 2012 a/k/a "The Cake Race"

Stephen ran today in the Marzuq 5K at Maclay Gardens in Tallahassee.  The Shriners give out cakes as prizes instead of medals so my kids call it "The Cake Race."  Jacob and I stayed up until 1:00 in the morning watching "Blues Brothers II" so he wasn't up to racing this morning.

Among the other runners in the race were a three time Canadian Olympian, a nationally ranked Masters distant runner and several other distance specialists.  Stephen started out the race in third place, fell back to fifth and finished in third with a time of 17:07.  Overall, this was one of Stephen's better races of the year.  He managed to finish ahead of his last summer's mentor, Coach Gary Droze, for the first time.  For a more entertaining account of the race check out Herb Wills' post.  You can view all of the results at Gulfwinds.  You can also see better pictures on Fred Deckert's site and Herb's Facebook page.

Camilla Gnat Days 5K 2012

Stephen, Jacob and Caroline ran in the Gnat Days 5k this evening. Stephen and the other race leaders were led down a course detour and had to catch back up to the rest of the runners. Stephen won the race and Jacob came in second in his age group with a PR 21:09.

GISA 2AA State Championship 3200 Meter Race

Stephen won the GISA 2AA State Championship 3200 Meter Race today with a time of 10:27.  He also finished Runner-up in the 1600 meter (4:45), fifth in the 800 meter (2:08) and third overall in total athlete points for the entire meet (22).

Thomasville, Georgia Rose City Run 2012

Jacob won the 13 and Under Division of the Thomasville Rose City Run 10K today with a time of 47:12. Pictures and results link to follow. For now, check out Herb Wills' story.
