Check out Renny and Chase's strong start to the Varsity Boys race; first and second after 300 meters.

FSU Invitational; Stephen finishes 6th and sets a new PR of 17:17!

The Varsity Boys ran in the FSU Invitational this morning. Stephen finished 6th overall in the Open Division. The high school Open Division was significantly less competitive than the other high school Invitational Division. He would have finished 60th or so in the Invitational Division. He ran a PR of 17:17. You can view all of the results here.

The guy with the microphone in his hand is Herb Wills. Herb was a 3 or 4 time All-American distance runner at FSU. His fastest 5K is sub-14:00.

Stephen "Unofficially" Runs Mercer RunFit and Sets PR 17:33

Stephen and I went to Macon this morning for a big mid-season meet. I didn't know I had to register him by Tuesday so they would not let him receive an official time or get a medal. I asked them to let him run "unofficially" because this is the biggest GISA meet of the season besides state. They reluctantly agreed. In the end I don't blame them for being reluctant because it looked a little silly as the second place runner ran outside the finish shoot.

We decided it would be worth our time to give Stephen a chance to compete on the state course against many of the same runners. He came in second with a PR time of 17:33. The first place runner finished in 16:29. Stephen's goal is to finish the season with a 16:59 or better.

The rest of the runners results are here.

Their next meet is a home meet in Thomasville.

9/11 Remembrance Race in Americus, Georgia

Brookwood ran in its largest race of the season so far in Americus, Georgia today. The race was in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. The 2010 GISA AAA state champions (Mount de Sales) were there as well as the third place AAA team (Tiftarea). Westfield, Westwood, Valwood, Deerfield Windsor, Southland, Sherwood, Highland and a couple other teams were there in addition to Brookwood. You can view all of the varsity boys race results here and the varsity girls race results here.

Several of the runners had standout performances. Stephen won the Varsity boys race with a time of 17:50 finishing 100 meters ahead of the second place Mt. de Sales runner. Alex placed 8th in the Varsity boys race. Alex' little brother Will placed second in the Junior Varsity race with a time of 9:45. Will's time was a split second slower than the winner of the race. Truman placed 9th in the Junior Varsity race a day after playing both ways in the Junior Varsity football game.
