Brookwood ran in their first Cross Country Track Meet of 2010 today. The Brookwood Boys Varsity team placed third (121 points) behind Tiftarea Academy (65 points) and Mount de Sales Academy (19 points). In Cross Country the fewer the points the better. There were 18 teams and 88 runners in the race. The Brookwood Varsity Boys finished as follows: (12th) Stephen Robbins 20:27, (18th) Alex Carico 21:53, (25th) Daniel Fortner 22:20, (46th) Hampton Worthy 24:43, (48th) Rand Pope 25:07, (52nd) Nathan Walter 25:38, (55th) Campbell Beadles 25:43, (60th) Jack Howard 26:10, (63rd) John Penhallegon 26:23, (65th) Jack Harper 26:52, (73rd) Renny Hodges 28:42.On the JV side, Jacob was injured so he sat the JV (2.5K) race out. Stephen ran in the Varsity (5K) meet. He had a choice between running the JV or Varsity race because he is an 8th Grader. 8th Graders can compete with the high school kids even though they are in middle school.
In the Varsity 5K Stephen finished 12th (out of the 88 mostly high school kids) in the race. There were a total of 18 teams at the meet. Stephen's time was 20:27. The kids who finished ahead of him were: (1) Brandon Lasater (17:23), (2) Harrison Myers (17:53), (3) Robert Ochieng (18:47), (4) Andrew Swicegood (18:54), (5) Blake Crowder (18:56), (6) Andres Charparro (19:10), (7) Jimmy Mehserle (19:33), (8) Joe Lyghtel (19:38), (9) Tommy Fitzgerald (19:45), (10) Medford McDonald (19:55), and (11) Justin Vickers (20:17).

A Little Pre-Race Banter Get Your Game Faces OnAnd They're OffSome of the JV Boys Team/Fan ClubAt the midway point Stephen was 16th. As he ran past he said, "I can run this pace all day." I told him, "Then speed up!" He did and finished 12th. By the way, the kids who finished 13th and 14th both finished in the top 10 at State last year.Jacob Prepares Water for the HandoffThe Perfect HandoffAnd Now for the SwigAnd a Little on the BackSome of the Top Finishers

The kid's time was 10:00. Stephen ran faster than that last year as a 7th Grader. I would suspect Stephen could have run the JV race in around 9:15 to 9:30.
How'd you guys get Stephen to smile in his pictures? Everyone else in the pictures has the normal running expression, like they're gasping for air.
