The Brookwood Cross Country team ran in the Women's Distance Festival at Optimist Park in Tallahassee on Saturday. Overall the team did very well with McKenzie Harrell (24:33) and Hunter Avera (27:16) finishing 1st and 2nd in the 12-14 year old women's division. Leigh Stauffer (25:26), Caroline Penhallegon (26:15) and Rebecca Unglaub (28:25) finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 15-18 year old division. Stephen Robbins (19:34) and Alex Carico (21:46) fishished 1st and 2nd in the men's 12-14 year old division. Daniel Fortner (21:46) finished 3rd in the 15-18 year old division. CONGRATULATIONS BROOKWOOD!

The girls are all smiles and teeming with optimism at the beginning of the race. Their optimism is justified considering how well they finished.
The men's race started exactly 5 minutes after the women's.
The boys are ready and if you look closely you can see Richard's false start.

A stitch in time doesn't save nine. It just hurts and makes the running more difficult.
Remember to subtract 5 minutes from the boys' times.
The sprint to the finish from Daniel and Alex was one of the high points of the race.
The smiles are gone, but the times are good.

These folks did a good job running the event.
The guy in this picture is at every local race taking pictures and adding them to his blog. His name is Herb Wills and he was an All-American runner back in the day and a member of the Florida High School Runners Hall of Fame.
Stephen accepts his trophy. His 19:34 was his best time ever. We also collected the seven other trophies the team won.
Back in high school I could run a 5K in 2 and 1/2 minutes (up a mountain in 3 feet of snow)!
