Stephen ran his fastest 1600 meter ever today. Perfect timing considering it was the State Championship Meet. He finished 5th with a time of 5:04. His 5:04 is 22 seconds faster than the state qualifying time of 5:26 he ran at Regionals and 11 seconds faster than his personal best. He seems to run a lot faster times in the bigger races.
To put his 5:04 in perspective, Georgia's public and private middle schools are having their combined middle school state championship today and tomorrow. The very fastest middle school kids in Georgia will be attending. The top 5 seeding times in the middle school state championship 1600 race are 4:54.00, 4:54.50, 5:03.00, 5:06.10, and 5:07.00.
You can check out all the State Meet final results here.
Stephen will be running in the 3200 meter on Saturday morning. Enjoy the pictures:I met the other guy in this picture after noticing his navy blue shirt with a familiar "Y" on it. We ended up talking for an hour or so. He is a basketball coach, science and math teacher at one of the largest GISA schools in Georgia. His son is a sophomore who was participating in 3 or 4 events.
