Coach Beeson, the kids are listening! Brookwood's JV boys won the GISA JV Regional 3AA Meet by the slimmest of margins; 1 point. Brookwood placed 3 boys in the top 10. Stephen Robbins placed first overall, Will Carico placed fourth and Truman Wright tenth. Following Stephen, Will and Truman were Preston Young, William Harrer, Will Ladson, Austin Walter and Jacob Robbins. But it wasn't necessarily the running of Brookwood's top three runners that gave the JV boys the win. Nor was it necessarily the grouping of Brookwood's next two runners. Instead, the JV boys regional came down to the top six runners for both Brookwood and Crisp Academy. As it turned out, Brookwood and Crisp Academy were tied with 29 points each after the first five runners on each team were counted. That meant the race would be decided by the number six runners on each team.
The coaches have been emphasizing the need to finish strong in every race; no matter what place the runner will finish. Will Ladson listened. Will outkicked the number six runner for Crisp Academy finishing one spot ahead of him and delivering the victory to Brookwood by a single point.
Brookwood finished the day by winning both the boys and girls individual and team trophies.
Take a look at the pictures.
Stephen's strategy was to trail the leader until 400 meters were left in the race.
The home stretch. Stephen won by 15 seconds.
Will was Brookwood's number six runner. Look behind him in this picture. If the kid behind him had beaten him Brookwood would not have won the boys' meet.
