What an exciting day of running. The JV girls started the GISA JV Regional 3AA Meet off by placing 5 girls in the top 10 and finishing first overall by a slim 2 points. I would have said the girls won by the "narrowest of margins," but that phrase has to be saved for the boys' subsequent 1 point victory.
From almost the outset of the race, Virginia Nash and McKenzie Harrell pulled away from the pack. By the time the two runners hit the 800 meter mark they were a good 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack. As the girls hit the 1200 meter mark and disappeared behind the treeline it was clear one of them would win the race. But which one? The answer was still in doubt as the two came back into view with McKenzie trailing Virginia by less than two seconds. The two frontrunners stayed about 2 seconds apart as they passed the 1600 meter mark running toward the finish line. In the end, Virginia was able to hold off McKenzie and get the win. The JV result was a reversal of positioning from the previous day's Varsity meet where McKenzie finished two spots ahead of Virginia. Way to compete girls!
The next four runners behind Virginia and McKenzie were from Crisp Academy before Brookwood's Elizabeth Johnson, Honey Balfour, Julia Hilson and Angela Gutierrez finished 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th.
Take a look at the pictures.
